The United States of America gained independence on July 4. Therefore this day is a federal holiday.

The establishment of the United States of America was approved by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776.

Banks: As the 4th of July is a federal holiday, all banks will be closed as usual on the 4th of July.

Stock Markets: The New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq and bond markets are all closed. They will reopen on 5th July.

Open department stores: Bass Pro Shops, Bed Bath & Beyond, Belk, Best Buy and Cabella's will be open on July 4.

Closed department stores: Many large and locally owned small department stores, including Costco will be closed on July 4.

Grocery stores: Aldi, Bi-Lo, Food Lion, Harris Teeter, Ingles, Publix, Safeway, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, etc.
